Nigeria army 'opens fire on civilians' in Maiduguri
Nigerian troops have opened fire and burned buildings in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri, reportedly killing 30 civilians.
The shootings came after a bomb blast targeting the army had injured two soldiers.
Maiduguri has been under siege from the militant Islamist group Boko Haram, which wants Sharia law in Nigeria.

Mystery as ‘murdered teacher withdraws money from bank account’
The people of Afuda, Ebhoiyi Uromi, in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State were thrown into mourning on Sunday, August 5 after unknown gunmen, suspected to be assassins, killed the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the council, Daniel Ehinon Akhidi.

Information reaching us reveals that Cynthia Osokogu who has been declared missing for some days now was found dead? Cynthia Osokogu has been missing since the 24th of July. She is the only daughter of an Army General. According to reports her body was found yesterday in a Lagos mortuary. Actual story behind are mysterious death can not be acetained at the time of this report. We pray God consoles her parents, family and friends. What a wicked world.

Nigerian Photo-Journalist Attacked By Security Guard In Lagos [NaijaGist...
Leadership Newspaper has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko, over the beating of its photojournalist, Benedict Uwalaka, by some mortuary attendants at the state’s University Teaching Hospital.
Uwalaka was attacked while covering the release of the corpses of the victims of Dana plane crash to their families.
A legal practitioner, Adamu Ibrahim, in the petition urged Manko to take urgent action to investigate and arrest those behind the assault.
The petition was also sent to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, LASUTH and the management of the mortuary.

Nigerian Illegal Oil Refineries
The Nigerian authorities say they are clamping down on the illegal trade in crude oil.
The Nigerian government says it is losing up to $1bn a month as a result of the theft in the Niger Delta.
Whilst some of the oil is refined locally, much of the stolen crude is taken out on barges to ships waiting off the coast.
But with politicians and the military known to be benefitting from the trade, it seems unlikely that the practice will be be stopped.

Breaking News: Nigerian basketball team win first Olympic match!
Few minutes ago, Team Nigeria’s basketball team at the 2012 London Game Olympics, D’Tigers made history as the first Nigerian basketball team to win a match at the on-going games.
What makes it better is that they did so in their first ever match!
D’Tigers won their first match in Group A by beating their Tunisian counterparts in 60-56 in what was described as a very competitive game played at the Olympic stadium.
By winning this match, D’Tigers need only one more game to win for them to scale through to the next round. Before the game, Sani Ahmed, coach of the team, said even though the Tunisians beat Nigeria on their way to winning the Afrobasket and picking the sole African slot in Madagascar, ‘today’s encounter will be different’ as the boys want to make history and prove that their qualification was no fluke.

Sad: Man loses seven children to Jos flood
Abdulramid Useni, a resident of Gangere in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, who lost seven children to the flood, said he was yet to comprehend what happened to him.
“My world is finished. Where do I start from?” he asked our correspondent in an emotion laden voice.
Useni said they were sleeping when it happened.

The department got the powers through an application filed under seal on May 16, 2012, in U.S District Court in the District of Columbia, to register and enforce two orders from United Kingdom courts against more than $3 million in corruption proceeds related to Ibori.
This was announced by Assistant Attorney General Lanny A.

38 killed, 50 missing in Jos flood
A woman and her five children were among no fewer than 38 persons killed after heavy rainfall in Jos North forced a dam to overflow, flooding Rikkos and Gangere areas of the Plataeu State on Sunday evening.
No fewer than 100 persons were displaced, with at least 50 declared missing and over 50 houses swept away.
The rain, which started at about 4.30pm, lasted for more than eight hours before it subsided.

Scientists and pharmacists have continued to research into how humanity can be saved from the killer scourge called HIV/AIDS.

But Monday, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in the United States of America (USA) approved a new drug that could be used by adults to reduce their chances of contacting the dreaded disease.
Such persons who do not already have the infection could reduce their chances of contacting the virus if they take the new drug once a day. It would be the first time the FDA would be approving a drug for the ailment.

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) has introduced the ‘GTBank Seniors Account’ for those that are 70 years and above.

Family of Nine Found Dead
Tragedy struck this morning at Umuakoro Village in Emekuku Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo state as 9 bodies of the Pascal Njoku Family were found dead at their residence in the early hours of today.
Sources said Mr. Pascal Njoku who works and resides in Port-harcourt, Rivers state, came back home for the final burial of his mum who died some months ago and he was accompanied by his wife, 5 children, his sister-in-law and her son. Shortly after the burial event yesterday night, they all went to their respective rooms to sleep.
